Pastor Charles Mainous

Senior Pastor

High Street Baptist Church was founded by Dr. Charles Mainous & his wife, Caylon on the first Sunday of October in 1968. Over the next 33 years, those 19 members grew to 50 and eventually to hundreds as Dr. Mainous followed Christ's leading on his life and on the church. Dr. Mainous continued to serve as the Senior Pastor until January 10th, 2001 when he and the church voted unanimously to install Charles Mainous III as the next pastor of High Street. With passion, excitement, vision, and a love for people, Pastor Mainous's heart is to reach our community, our state, and our nation with the Gospel. Pastor Mainous & Mrs. Cathy are thrilled to serve and be apart of the HSBC family.

OUR PURPOSE & MISSION

To share Jesus with as many people as possible and develop dynamic disciples that love and live their lives in Christian maturity

WORSHIP GOD
We were created to worship and bring glory to God our Creator. Our desire is to worship God in all that we do. Our weekly worship services are designed to allow you the opportunity to engage in powerful and meaningful worship through singing, praying, giving, and serving.
SHARE THE GOSPEL
The gospel is the Good News that Jesus lived the life that we could not live, died the death that we should have died, and rose triumphantly from the grave to give us victory over sin, death, hell, and Satan. We seek to not only share this message with our community but also the world.
GROW TOGETHER
God did not just create us to believe but also to belong. We need each other for love, comfort, support, accountability, and encouragement. People were made with a need for community. Everyone has the opportunity to engage with a group of believers, to experience Christian growth, and to build meaningful friendships at High Street.
SERVE OTHERS
The Bible says that Jesus "went about doing good." We believe that Christians are called to be ambassadors as visible representations of Christ. God has called and equipped everyone to serve others as Christ did. We seek to serve as Christ served and love as Christ loved.

OUR BELIEFS

The Bible

We believe the Holy Scriptures, composed of the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament and the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, are the verbally inspired Word and Revelation of God. We believe that the Bible is the inerrant, infallible, and inspired Word of God and is therefore the final authority in all of our faith and practices. We also believe that the miracle of this divine inspiration also extends to the divine preservation of a pure text to this day. Therefore, we believe and stand firmly that we have the very Word of God preserved in the King James Bible for the English-speaking people.

(Psalm 19:7-11; II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:16-21; Luke 24:13-28; John 16:12-16; Psalm 12:6-7; Isaiah 40:8; Psalm 138)

The trinity

We believe that there is one and only one living and true God: an infinite, intelligent Spirit, the Maker and supreme Ruler of heaven and earth, inexpressibly glorious in holiness and worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love. In the unity of the Godhead there are three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, which is the Trinity. Each of the three entities is equal in power, deity, and authority.

(Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:19; John 4:24; 10:30; 15:26; 17:5; Acts 5:3-4; Romans 11:23; I Corinthians 8:6; II Corinthians 13:14; 4:6; I John 5:7-8)

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the eternal Deity and personality of the Holy Spirit, who is one of the three Persons of the Trinity. We believe the following are among His ministries: the restraining of evil in the world to the measure of the divine will; the conviction of the world regarding sin, righteousness, and judgment; the calling and regeneration of all believers; the indwelling of those who are saved; and, the continued filling for power, teaching, and service of all among the saved who are truly yielded to Him. We believe the Holy Spirit produces His fruit in the lives of all believers.

(Romans 8:28, 29; I Corinthians 1:24; II Thessalonians 2:7; John 3:6; John 16:7-11; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18; Galatians 5:22, 23; Colossians 1:10, 12)

the person and work of christ

We believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ, that he was supernaturally begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and that he is God and man at the same time. We believe that the entire life of Jesus Christ was spent free from sin. He was not only sinless in nature but also sinless in deed, thought, and performance. This qualifies Him to be the only Savior of mankind, as no other person has ever, will ever, or shall ever, be able to meet this just demand of God for a sinless substitute.

(Matthews 1:20-21; Luke 1:35-36; Luke 2:10-11; John 1:14; John 3:16-18; I John 4:9; John 8:46; John 18:38; Matthew 17:5)

the atoning death of christ and point of salvation

We believe when Jesus gave His life on Calvary. He died for all mankind and declared that those who trust Him as Savior will be righteous in the sight of God.

(John 3:16, John 10:17-18, Romans 5:1, Hebrews 9:22-28)

We believe salvation is received when a person willingly and sincerely repents (changes his mind) and places his trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior.

(Acts 20:21; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12)

the resurrection of christ

We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ after His death on the cross. Christ’s ability to rise from the dead by His own power gives us assurance that He will also resurrect those who trust Him for salvation into heaven.

(Matthew 28:1-10; Mark 16:1-6; Luke 24:1-7; John 11:25-26; John 20-21; I Corinthians 15:1-8, 51-57; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20:11-15)

Man's sin nature

We believe man was created in the image of God and voluntarily sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death. Man’s sinful nature separates him from God and sentences him to an everlasting hell. All human beings are born with a sin nature. Those who reach moral responsibility are sinners by choice. Sin creates a debt which no man can pay for himself.

(Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; Genesis 1:26-27; I Corinthians 11:7; Psalm 51:5)

Salvation & Security

We believe that at the very moment an individual puts his trust in Christ, he is born into the family of God. He is redeemed by Jesus's death on the cross and eternally preserved in Christ.

(John 10:28-29; Romans 8:38-39; John 5:24; Ephesians 1:13; Ephesians 4:30)

The second coming of christ

We believe our Lord’s return is literal, personal, and imminent. He will rapture the dead in Christ first, and then the living saints will be caught up together to meet the Lord in the air prior to the seven years of tribulation. At the end of the tribulation, Christ will return with His saints to establish His thousand-year reign on the earth.

(I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Titus 2:13; I Thessalonians 1:10; Revelation 3:10; Zechariah 14:4-11; Revelation 19:11-16; Revelation 20:1-6; Psalm 89:3-4)

the new testament church

We believe that Jesus Christ established the church during His ministry on earth. It is a local, visible assembly of saved, baptized believers to carry out the great commission. Each church is an independent, self-governing body. Jesus gave the great commission to the New Testament church, and He promised perpetuity of the church.

(Matthew 4:18-22; Matthew 16:18; Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 3:21)

baptism

We believe each person who trusts Christ as their Savior should promptly make a public profession. Each new believer should follow the Lord's command for baptism by immersion under the authority of a local New Testament church. Baptism does not save, but it is the Lord’s way for us to identify with him. Baptism is a symbolic representation of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

(Matthew 10:32-33; Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 9:23; Acts 16:30-34; Romans 10:9-10)

The church ordinances

We believe Christ gave the church two ordinances: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We use unleavened bread and unfermented fruit of the vine to commemorate the death of Christ. This is the time for Christians to examine themselves.

(Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 8:12; I Corinthians 5:11-13; I Corinthians 11:23-29; Matthew 3:6; Matthew 3:16; Matthew 28:19-20; John 3:23; Acts 2:41-42; 8:36-39; Romans 6:3-5; I Corinthians 11:23-28)

the believer's separation

We believe that saved people should live in a manner that does not bring reproach upon their Savior. God commands Christians to separate from the world.

(Romans 12:1-2; 14:13; II Corinthians 6:14-7:1; II Timothy 3:1-5; I John 2:15-17; II John 9-11)
